With the opening of Matrikel1 Bar & Café, entrepreneurs in Copenhagen have a new casual meeting place for work lunches and after work drinks.
Part of the entrepreneurial scene
Located centrally in downtown Copenhagen along the picturesque canal Gammel Strand and a stone’s throw away from the Stock Exchange and Parliament, the café serves as a casual place for meetups, meetings or somewhere to work. The café is part of the Matrikel1 coworking and entrepreneurial community of creatives, tech experts, entrepreneurs and founders.
“Beware, you might run into other founders and entrepreneurs while you’re here!” jokes Jonas Fancony, General Manager of Matrikel1. “The café is an extension of our coworking community here at Matrikel1. Our mission with the café is to create a space where entrepreneurs can meet and collaborate whether they are members of Matrikel1, or part of the wider entrepreneurial ecosystem.”
However, the café is not just aimed at an entrepreneurial audience. Other Copenhagen visitors and residents, alike, are more than welcome.
Good, honest food
“For me, food is about community. We all enjoy being together while enjoying a good meal,” says Morten Wagner, Head Chef at Matrikel1. For Morten, food brings people together and creates a space for mutual enjoyment.
“Good food is about honest ingredients and harmonious tastes. I like making food that people know and like,” he says with a smile.
The all-day menu comprises seasoned stalwarts, that never go out of fashion, such as the grilled panini sandwich or mixed salad with plenty of greens tossed in a light vinaigrette. Other items include protein-rich skyr, an Icelandic yoghurt with handmade granola and fresh berries, or overnight chia and oatmeal porridge for a great start to the day. Wash it down with freshly-squeezed orange and ginger juice. Or if you’re in need of an afternoon pick-me-up, feast on artisanal pastries and homemade petits fours with fairtrade coffee from a local Copenhagen roastery.
While the classics are sacred, the daily lunch specials serve as a playground of senses that take your tastesbuds from classic French home cooking to the piquant flavours of Southeast Asia.
